Due to its location at the dhuladhar mountain range in the great Himalayas, Bir Billing always has the blessing of great weather throughout the year. But the best time for ultimate experience of paragliding is divided into two parts: October – November and March – June are considered as the best time for bir billing paragliding. Some people prefer the month of December and January for paragliding because they like the view presented by the snow capped mountains.

LOCAL ATTRACTION
Sherabling Monastry
Large Tibetan monastery (www.palpung.org) located in a forest 8-9 km from Bir – 20 minutes by taxi or two hours walk on a quiet road. There are several scenic shortcut paths across the fields, if you go with someone who knows the way. It’s usually possible to find a taxi for the return trip.
Chökyi Lödrö College of Dialectics (formerly Dzongsar Institute)
Large new monastic institute which opened in 2004, after relocating from what is now Deer Park campus to Chauntra, 5 km from Bir – about 15 minutes by taxi or a one hour walk. Go between 5-6 p.m. to see the monks debating.
Baijnath Shiva Temple
Small, beautiful 9th century temple with fine stone carvings about 20-30 minutes by taxi from Bir, or bus from Chowgan crossroads.
Dharmalaya Institute
New eco-campus for sustainable and compassionate living (www.dharmalaya.in). The centre is located on a hill near the village of Ghornala, about 6km northwest of Bir Colony – about 20 minutes by taxi followed by a short, steep hike.
Deer Park Institute
(located on the former campus of the Dzongsar Institute) offers courses and workshops to explore various aspects of Buddhism and other classical Indian wisdom traditions. Most classes are taught in English and are free of charge. Accommodation is available on site.
Andretta Pottery
Artists’ village with pottery studio (www.andrettapottery.com) located on a back road between Paprola and Palampur, about 45 minutes by taxi from Bir.
Tea factory
One of oldest tea factory in Bir village surrounded by tea gardens. This factory is still working, it produce organic green tea everyday with fresh tea plant leaves. This place is 2 km far from paragliding landing site. You can walk as well as hire a texi to reach there.
HOW TO REACH
By Air
Gaggal airport in Kangra is the nearest domestic airport, 13 km from the town. Chandigarh (255 km), Amritsar (208 km) and Jammu (200 km) are also good options to reach Kangra. Taxis are available from all these airports to Kangra.
By Train
The nearest station is ahju. which is only 3kms from Bir. Trains from Delhi arrive at Pathankot an hour before the toy train leaves. The ride is long, tiring and often crowded but the stunning scenery more than compensates for any inconveniences.
By Road
From the Inter-state Bus Terminal (ISBT), take bus to either Baijnath or Bir Road – the latter is closer, but many buses only go as far as Baijnath. There are two overnight buses leaving Delhi. Both depart mid evening and arrive early morning. State-owned buses connect Kangra with all major cities of Himachal Pradesh and neighboring states. Regular buses are available between Kangra and Dharamsala, Palampur, Pathankot, Jammu, Amritsar and Chandigarh.
